Prime Minister Levi Eshkol leaves Lod Airport for a long tour of African countries. His first stop is in Dakar, Senegal, where he is met by government representatives and the Israeli ambassador. Eshkol tours a former slave colony, visits the museum of slavery and dines at the palace of President Léopold Sédar Senghor. He then flies to Cote d’Ivoire and is welcomed at the airport by the Minister of Justice and thousands of citizens. At the presidential palace, he is welcomed by president Félix Houphouët-Boigny and the two exchange gifts and souvenirs. Then a festive dinner is organized in which Eshkol and the president sign a joint statement calling for peaceful resolution of conflicts. At a state ceremony, Eshkol speaks to the National Assembly. In a village that receives financial support from Israel, dance and song performances are held in his honor. From there, Eshkol travels to Liberia and is met by President William Tubman at the airport. At Monrovia University, Eshkol receives an honorary Doctor of Law degree. Then he travels to Congo, Kenya, and Madagascar.
