Ministers of the Israeli government, including Minister of Finance Levi Eshkol and Minister of Foreign Affairs Moshe Sharett, are signing the first contract permitting oil exploration in Israel with Ampal – American Palestine Trading Corporation. Company representatives sit with the ministers at the signing ceremony. Levi Eshkol declares that this company will be the first to search for oil in Israel, and the company representatives sign the contract between Mekorot – Israel National Water Co., Ampal – American Israel Petroleum Corporation and Ampal – American Palestine Trading Corporation. Moshe Sharett sums up the meeting referring to the difficulty and importance of locating oil reserves in Israel.
