The film follows the complex rehearsal period for Romeo and Juliet – a stage co-production featuring a Palestinian actors company from Ramallah’s Al-Kasaba theatre and a Jewish company from Jerusalem’s Khan Theatre. The year was 1994 – a time of peace treaties and terror attacks in Israel – it is against this complicated backdrop that these two companies come together in the rehearsal room to engage and embrace the ‘lie’ that is theatre – however, neither is ultimately able to escape the harsh reality that creeps into their rehearsal space and will not let them be. The film was shown at the Jerusalem Film Festival, the Washington International Documentary Film Festival, and at DOK Leipzig.
