This film by Yossi Madmoni and David Ofek initially started out as a four-part miniseries that won an Israeli Television Academy Award for Best Original Drama, and an award for Best Cinematography. The story is based on the real life of lead actor, Yigal Adika who was also the driving force behind the film’s commissioning. At the heart of the story is Adika’s and his wife’s journey after she is handed a terminal, Melanoma-type cancer diagnosis. In the film, Adika plays Uzi, whilst Sharon Zuckerman plays his wife, Noga – a beautiful, young dancer with just three months left to live. When the doctor delivers the grim diagnosis, Uzi takes the decision to keep Noga’s terminal fate from her. The film follows the couple’s day-to-day life, capturing both the intimate and banal moments they share in what short time they have left together until Noga’s imminent death. The fact that Adika is playing a character that is based on his own life story, coupled with Asaf Sudri’s documentary-esque cinematography, makes this raw glimpse of the couple’s life feel that much more genuine and authentic. Melanoma my Love was shown at the Montréal World Film Festival, and the Haifa International Film Festival.
