The Haim Hefer-penned narration, coupled with archival footage from the Carmel Newsreels provide a moving, nostalgic, and humour-tinged look at the history of modern Jewish life in Yishuv (pre-Israel Palestine) times. The rare archival footage features highlights of recent local Jewish history: the cast of the Matate (‘broom’) Theatre company performing Nathan Alterman’s song, Prosperity; a military parade; a boxing competition; legendary Tel Aviv mayor, Meir Dizengoff, giving a speech; the Jaffa riots of 1936; the homecoming of the Habima Theatre Collective from their tour of Alexandria; demonstrations against the British’s 1939 publication of the White Paper; the convoys headed to a besieged Jerusalem, and the arrival of Herzl’s remains in the country.
