Director Lena Chaplin provides a rare glimpse into the life of late author and editor, Netiva Ben-Yehuda – her memories, inner world, and her home. Through a series of conversations with her daughter, Amal, and her family; Ben-Yehuda’s longtime friend, Haim Hefer; her chauffeur who would drive her to work every day; friends from her military days in the Palmach, and her subordinates, Chaplin shines a revealing light on this once in a lifetime woman who was as tender as she was tough. “Everyone killed in the War of Independence died a virgin,” Ben-Yehuda once remarked in one of her many timeless titbits that echo throughout the film, providing first-hand insights into the Palmach days of anti-British Jewish resistance, the runup to the establishing of the State of Israel, and the last of the country’s founding generation who are still living through all the memories – the joys, triumphs, losses, and the grief on a daily basis.
