Once a month, 60 kibbutz members from all over the country, all of whom are in the Israel Kibbutz Choir (the main musical body for all kibbutzim and affiliated groups) get together for three days of rehearsals and learning new pieces under the tutelage of conductor, Avner Itai. In return for room and board, the choir then performs for all members of their host kibbutz. Tal’s film, which he made as a student at Tel Aviv University’s Department of Film and Television Studies, follows the choir as they rehearse Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, and the difficult emotions it seems to stir in some members.
