An explanatory film produced by the Israeli Film Service and the Prime Minister’s Office.
About six months after she was elected Israeli prime minister, Golda Meir traveled to the United States, where she was received at the ceremony by President Nixon. During her visit, she, along with Ambassador Yitzhak Rabin and Foreign Minister Abba Even, held talks with the US President and with the US Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense regarding political assistance, peace, and negotiations. At the end of the meetings and the farewell ceremony, Meir traveled from Washington to New York, where the Secretary-General of the United Nations, U Thant, met with the Federation of Trade Unions and many American officials. Meir held a speech to the Jewish community in the United States and visited the high school where she studied in her youth.
