Excerpt from Episode 24 of the TV series “This Week 25 Years Ago”, created by the Israel Film Service, as part of the 25th-anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the State of Israel.
On Friday, May 14, 1948, at Dizengoff House, Tel Aviv Museum, on 16 Rothschild Boulevard in Tel Aviv, David Ben-Gurion reads the Declaration of Independence from two typed pages. The declaration ceremony is recorded in full, partly filmed by Natan Axelrod, and broadcast live. The British Mandate rule in Palestine is coming to an end, and the High Commissioner leaves the country with the last unit of the British army, sailing from Haifa. At the height of the War of Independence, the inhabitants of the country will face each other without the intervention of the British Mandate Army.
(Screenwriter: Menahem Talmi; Narrator: Ram Evron; Editor: Timna Horwitz; Historical advisors: Dr. Netanel Lorch, Dr. Gavriel Cohen, Col. Avraham Elon, and Col. Gershon Rivlin)
