Excerpt from Episode 4 of the TV series ״This Week 25 Years Ago״, created by the Israel Film Service as part of the 25th-anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the State of Israel.
Israel Galili (who would serve as the Haganah’s chief of staff during the War of Independence) interprets in a scathing interview the British anti-Zionist approach. Galili claims that the establishment of a Jewish state is disagreeable to the British and therefore they did not keep their commitment to neutrality, even demanding that the Jewish leadership moderate retaliation to prevent escalation. The Zionist leaders’ strategy, according to Galili, was to secure the transportation routes to prevent the evacuation of the besieged settlements as a means of expanding their hold on the country.
