A short documentary about ORT’s activities within the Beta Israel community in Ethiopia. ORT was the first Western organization to lead a comprehensive program for education, community, and technological development in Ethiopia, focusing on the Jewish community. The program included the establishment of schools for secular Jewish education, synagogues, and training of religious leaders, alongside investments in infrastructure and medical services. These initiatives aimed to preserve the community’s unique culture, connect it to global Jewry, and prepare it for immigration to Israel. In 1981, the Ethiopian government suspended ORT’s activities, but three years later, 7,000 community members immigrated to Israel during Operation Moses. The film highlights ORT’s significant contribution to the Beta Israel community throughout the years and its ongoing commitment to advancing the community both in Ethiopia and in Israel, Accompanied by interviews with the director of the program Jean-Claude Nadjar.
