1500 sheep for the wool industry arrive at the Port of Eilat in a ship that sailed from Sydney. Laborers unload the livestock, and load it on trucks. Before it was utilized to transport sheep, the ship Thala Dan participated in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition, led by Vivian Fuchs. On the same week, a cornerstone laying ceremony of the Marine Hospital in Eilat is held. The hospital aims to treat sailors diseases caught in Africa and Asia. Minister of Health Yisrael Barzilai and President of WIZO Rebecca Sieff sign the cornerstones bill. The donation of Canadian women of the organization WIZO-Hadassah enables the establishment of the hospital.
