Middle and high school students in Tel Aviv are holding a protest rally in solidarity with Salah Muallem and Shlomo Samueloff, the hostages of Damascus, who are currently being held in Syrian prison. The two abducted men were passengers on a plane which was hijacked by members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Leila Khaled and Salim Issawi, in August 1969. The plane was landed in Damascus, and the two Israelis on board were handed over to Syrian intelligence. During a protest rally in Tel Aviv, the wives of the hostages, Naomi Samueloff and Matilda Muallem, address the crowd of protestors, calling on the United Nations and Syria to release their husbands, who will be released in December 1969.
