Since its eighth independence day, Israel has known one war, significant industrial growth, and intense immigration. This newsreel comprises remarkable news reports broadcasted in Israel between 1956-1957, which include the following: the absorption of 750 thousand new immigrants; the absorption of young immigrants under Youth Aliyah; the settlement of new immigrants in permanent settlements (rather than transit camps); the “Citrus and Agricultural Export” exhibition in Beit Dagan; agricultural festivals in immigrants’ settlements, such as the “Grape Harvest Festival” and “Sheep Shearing Festival”; the production of steel pipelines for the Trans Israel Pipeline; the inauguration of new water pipelines; the training of youth for industrial vocations in vocational schools; the Eliezer Kaplan Work Awards ceremony in Haifa; the industrial exposition in Haifa; the completion of the railway from Haifa to Beersheba; the inauguration of new Israeli Navy destroyers “Yafo” and “Eilat”; the training of new IDF soldiers and officers; the Artillery Corps’ gathering at Ramat Gan Stadium; Fidayeen and artillery attacks on Israeli border settlements and the volunteering of civilians for defense tasks; the Suez Crisis (Sinai War) and Prime Minister David Ben Gurions’s visit to the occupied Sinai peninsula; Israeli President Yitzhak Ben Zvi’s visit aboard INS Haifa; the return of four Israeli prisoners of war () from Egypt; the announcement of a security loan to cover the expenses of the Sinai War; the strenghening of the bonds between Israel and France and the purchace of Dassault Mystère IV jets from the European country; the arrival of ships to the Port of Eilat thatks to the freedom of navigation in the Gulf of Aquaba, secured in the war.
