Director Levi Zini sets out to document happenings on the site of the Western Wall. The various activities, including daily prayers, bar mitzvah ceremonies, military enlistment ceremonies, and Reform-Jewish women’s prayer services, bring Zini to encounter individuals from diverse backgrounds. The daily reality of the holy site is exposed through his conversations with steady worshippers, occasional visitors, alms collectors, and border patrol soldiers securing the compound. In these encounters, as well as in interviews with public figures such as Rabbi Shai Piron and author Orly Castel-Bloom, Zini explores the role of religion and faith in the lives of religious, traditional, and secular Jews. The emerging picture is a mosaic of the diverse Jewish identities in Israel.
