A documentary film produced by Hadassah, about the life and work of Henrietta Szold: Born in 1860 in Baltimore, USA, to Eastern European immigrant parents, she displayed leadership skills from a young age, as her younger sister recounts in an interview after her death. After the Pogroms in the Russian Empire, many Jews settled in her hometown, where she established an immigrant school to teach English and help them integrate into American society. For 20 years, she served as editor of the Jewish Publication Society, introducing the works of major Jewish writers to American readers. Following her visit to Palestine, where she witnessed poverty and disease, she founded the Hadassah organization in America, urging women to work for the health of the Jewish community in Palestine. During World War I, she arrived with a medical team to treat the sick and established a nursing school and hospital. In World War II, she helped facilitate the immigration of 400 children, known as the “Tehran Children,” and spoke at the 19th Zionist Congress about rescuing Jewish children from Nazi Germany. Szold passed away in 1945 and was buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
