A film produced by the Israel Film Service for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In Kafr Qara, a village in northern Israel, preparations are underway for a celebration in honor of Muhammad Massarwa, a son of the village, who has been appointed as Israel’s Consul in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States. Massarwa is the first Arab diplomat to be chosen to represent Israel. Villagers, friends, and official representatives, including Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Minister Ezer Weizman, came to congratulate him. Public issues are not foreign to Massarwa, who, as a lawyer and as head of the local village council, dealt with problems related to population growth, construction, education, and economy. To prepare for the trip, Massarwa takes his two sons to English lessons at Kibbutz Lavi nearby, a testament to the ideology of coexistence and partnership between Arabs and Jews in Israel that he advocates.
