A documentary film produced by the Israel Film Service in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry of Public Diplomacy, focusing on the Battle of Khirbet Ma’achaz during the War of Independence. The Palmach fighters who participated in this battle return to the same isolated hill in the northern Negev and reenact the bloody clashes that took place between September 7–8 and October 6, 1948, between the First Battalion of the Yiftach Brigade and the Egyptian army, Muslim Brotherhood volunteers, and Hebron-area Arabs. During the battle, the hill changed hands four times. The fighters recount the challenges of combat and leadership, treating the wounded on the battlefield, the retreats from the hill, its strategic importance, and how it was ultimately captured. The film is accompanied by archival footage and interviews with historian Meir Pa’il and author S. Yizhar, who wrote the book Days of Ziklag, inspired by these battles.
