The third chapter of a series delves into the life and work of Binyamin Ze’ev Theodor Herzl. This episode tells the final decade of Herzl’s life, from the convening of the first Zionist Congress in Basel to his passing in Vienna. Staged interviews with “participants” of the Zionist congresses depict Herzl as a “tall, handsome, almost regal” statesman. Herzl’s diaries and correspondence reveal his diplomatic efforts to establish the Zionist Organization and promote Jewish immigration to Palestine for the creation of a Jewish state. Despite showcasing diplomatic failures, the chapter concludes by emphasizing Herzl’s unique inner world: “I do not seek the majority,” he wrote before his death, “my only need is harmony with my inner conscious.”.
