This short film, produced by the Israel Film Service, consists entirely of street interviews conducted in Israel about the public image of nurses. Passersby of various ages and ethnicities are interviewed, responding to several questions to provide a snapshot of the average Israeli’s views regarding nursing. First, the interviewees are asked how they see nurses; most of them reply that they see nurses as caretakers, whose job is to assist doctors and patients – some also refer to the “grunt work” nurses must perform as part of their job and to care for patients’ needs. When the interviewees are asked whether they would recommend the job to their relatives, most of them say no, due to the hard work and low wages. Only a few say yes, and most of them are hesitant and add reservations such as “only if they’re talented”, “not as their first choice” and so on. Unsurprisingly, when they are asked whether nurses are properly rewarded for their work, most of them either say that they don’t know, or that they should ,be paid more. Finally, interviewees are questioned about their expectations of nurses; they mostly focus on the bedside manner, kindness, sensitivity and patience required by the job, alongside professionality and medical expertise.
