This short documentary film was produced by the Israeli Film Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Pre-Elementary Education Department and the Pedagogy Administration. Its goal is to present and demonstrate the educational approach that kindergarten is a living environment which greatly influences children’s development in a variety of areas, and that educators should thoughtfully mold this environment, the space where children learn and play, the stimuli available to them and the manner in which they’re organized. The film purports that if the correct conditions are met, the learning experience becomes an adventure where children come across a world of direct sensory experiences, preparing them for different challenges, both at kindergarten and in their future as adults. The film shows kindergarteners experimenting with various activities that include playing, social interactions and learning through environmental stimuli; they play with sand, water, and cubes and engage in socio-dramatic games that enable them to process real-life events; they act on a stage and pretend to run a spaceship airport; they make arts and crafts, improve their math skills, raise animals and even learn to use more modern appliances like computers. Meanwhile, the narration explains in detail how the environment and stimuli should be designed in each of these activities, in order to ensure an informative, productive and enjoyable living environment for the kindergarteners.
