This is an excerpt from a compilation of WIZOS promotional films and other films whose creators are unknown. The Ayanot Youth Village project, a women’s farming village, was established in 1930 near Ness Ziona by Ada Maimon, in cooperation with the WIZO Federation of Romania. It was managed by Selma Margaret Margolis and the Workers Council of Histadrut. Architect Richard Kaufman designed the architectural complex. During World War II, the village hosted many refugees, and during Israel’sWar of Independence, it served as a base for the Palmach.
Later, Ayanot became an agricultural school for girls, and in 1952, it became a mixed agricultural school for boys and girls. In this excerpt, filmed soon after the establishment of the village, young women are shown working in the barn, nursery, and vegetable garden. We also see them harvesting, plowing, and working in the orchard, kitchen, and poultry coop. The village buildings are visible in the background.
