The Torch of Freedom arrives in New York: Israeli marathon runner Shalom Kahalani arrives in Idlewild Airport in New York on an EL AL flight with the Torch of Freedom in his hands. The athlete will run from the airport to New York City Hall where he will hand over the torch to the mayor, Robert F. Wagner Jr., to mark the eighth Independence Day of the State of Israel and as a sign of a solidarity between the two countries. Kahalani is greeted at the airport by Jewish judge Samuel Leibowitz.
