Documentation from the inauguration event of the new Tel Aviv Museum building, which took place on April 19, 1971, in the presence of the President of Israel Zalman Shazar, Prime Minister Golda Meir, Foreign Minister Abba Eban, and Mayor of Tel Aviv Yehoshua Rabinowitz. A gala concert was held in honor of the event, conducted by Leonard Bernstein. During the ceremony, doctors stood outside the building and protested the investment of the budget in the museum building at the expense of the budget for hospitals. The museum director, Haim Gamzu, led the distinguished guests on a first tour of the galleries, where the opening exhibitions were presented: Israeli art, in the second, sculptures and drawings by Jacques Lipchitz, paintings by prominent French artists of the 20th century, and an exhibition on the connection between art and science.
