Director Yeud Levanon’s short film marks his first ever collaboration with screenwriter Aryeh Krishek and late musician, Ronny Brown. With the latter, he later also created his film (‘hapnimiyah’) (1983). Watching Laughter in White Rectangles is highly reminiscent of the line ‘life along with the cemetery’ from Jacques Prévert poem, Family Portrait. In the film, Micha Levinson plays a soldier who is trying to get on with his life following his friend’s death in active duty – simultaneously living in the past and present, in hellish memories and new ones made with his spouse at sea, and between the bustling metropolis and the graveyard.
