Rehearsal was Amnon Zlayet’s graduation project from the Beit Zvi School for the Performing Arts. Zlayet who, with time, would become one of Israeli film’s most lauded cinematographers, has a host of formidable credits to his name behind the lens including Crows (Ayelet Menahemi, 1988), Amazing Grace (Amos Guttman, 1992), Zohar (Eran Riklis 1993), and Passover Fever (aka ‘Leylasede’) (Shemi Zarhin, 1995).
This drama, which he directed, is a condensed black & white short, at the heart of which is the story of exes Kobi and Effie who, in addition to having once dated also used to be in a rock band together. Those days, however, are long gone. Effie has since found God and become devoutly religious and has now turned up at Kobi’s flat to pack up the rest of her stuff. Kobi, who cannot wrap his head around this new life that Effie has chosen for herself, tries to keep her there with him.
