The film shines a light on a social subsect still relatively unknown to the general population: ‘bears.’ In LGBTQ lingo, the term refers to men of a distinctly bearish physique, i.e. hefty and heavyset, and at times also muscular and hairy. And whilst an exact definition remains elusive, the film itself follows four men who are seen as outsiders in Israeli society: Paz and Daniel – both of whom are gay, overweight, and ‘bearish’ in their appearance – who are grappling with their weight and loneliness; and their friends – partners Motti and Moti. The foursome embark on a journey during which they will come to terms with their identity, and along the way form an embracing and wholly supportive alterative family unit for themselves.
