Israel is under the threat of a nuclear attack. One hour and forty-five minutes before Iranian missiles could strike, in the midst of chaos and the frantic rush for shelters, Daniel tries to take his mother to a protected space, but she refuses to go down. Eventually, when they descend into the shelter, the mother tells her son about her brother, Dr. Feuerberg, a nuclear physicist who was one of the founding fathers of Israel’s nuclear option.
Through a flashback, the story of the establishment of Israel’s nuclear reactor, a secret project known as “Operation Sunflower” unfolds. The plot takes place in the 1960s. The young nation faces constant threats from its neighbors, and the head of the Mossad dedicates efforts toward building Israel’s deterrent power, centered on the nuclear option, with the help of Dr. Feuerberg, who is torn between the scientific challenge and the moral implications of building a bomb.
The film’s narrative weaves together political intrigue, scientific ambition, and the personal dramas of the people involved in the covert nuclear project.
