A documentary thriller by Yair Lev. The filmmaker’s mother, Hava Lev, unexpectedly inherits a small cottage in London from a distant relative. In order to claim the inheritance, she must prove that she is the daughter of Ernst Bechinsky, the deceased woman’s uncle.
However, a second death certificate reveals the details of another man born on the same day, at the same time, and in the same place as her father – bearing the same name and identity number. According to the documents, Ernst Bechinsky did not die in Tel Aviv in 1969, as the family believed, but in Innsbruck in 1987.
Lev embarks on an investigative journey to uncover the truth about the man who adopted his grandfather’s identity after World War II. His search reveals that the impostor became the president of the Jewish community in Innsbruck and opens a Pandora’s box involving the man’s family, including connections to the SS and the Anschluss.
You Only Die Twice won numerous awards, including the Research Award and the Audience Award at Docaviv, and the Best Feature Documentary award at the Noida International Film Festival.
