A rare family collection belonging to Dr. Jean Stallman and containing footage from the US and Israel, shot between the late 1940s and the early 1950s. The collection includes a number of historic moments filmed in the US, including footage of Albert Einstein at Princeton University (1949), and New York City’s Fourth of July Parade (1950). Also featured in the collection are scenes shot on the eve of the 1948 War of Independence at various Israeli locations including Rehovot, Haifa, Jerusalem, Kiryat Anavim, Kfar Giladi and The Dead Sea, with notable cameos by then-prominent Jewish community figures such as Chaim Weizmann, Haim Laskov and Moshe Sharett. This is a collection of tremendous historical significance that will undoubtedly prove itself a valuable source of information for scholars, filmmakers, students, museums, various organisations, etc. The collection is the property of the Stallman family who have entrusted it in the hands of the Israeli Film Archive. The Archive is in charge of the collection’s maintenance and management, scientific preservation, and accessibility to the general public.
